MINNEAPOLIS -- Five Twin Cities drinking establishments are in trouble for offering special prices only to women.
The Minnesota Department of Human Rights says "Ladies' Night" drink specials are discriminatory to men. The department says it won't name the establishments charged until the cases are resolved.
The issue came up in 1994 when a Mall of America club, Gators, resolved a case by paying a patron $500 because he complained the establishment imposed a cover charge for men, but not women.
The Star Tribune reports the former head of the Human Rights Department, Minneapolis attorney Steve Cooper, says the drink specials may be gender discrimination. But Cooper says it's not like someone has been denied a job, education or something else important.
