Mountain bike trail opens in Pembina Gorge in northeast North Dakota
WALHALLA, N.D.—A new mountain bike terrain terrain park opened Friday at Frost Fire Park near Walhalla.
"The park is part of the expanded vision for outdoor recreation including a trail connector, downhill skiing/snowboarding and tubing, kayaking, conservation programming and more," Pembina Gorge Foundation Interim Director Kristi Wilfahrt said in a news release.
To celebrate the grand opening, the 142.5-mile Wilderman Off-Road Triathlon is being held this weekend. The triathlon starts at Frost Fire 7:00 a.m. on July 14th.
The terrain park is expected to draw 4,800 riders annually when all seven of its trails are completed, Wilfahrt said.
The park cost approximately $2.8 million raised through private and public funding, and is in partnership with North Dakota Parks and Recreation.
