FARGO - About 85 Supervalu employees who went on strike early this morning are back on the job after contract disagreements were worked out, according to Donny Walz, business agent for the local Teamsters union 120.

The workers went on strike about 6 a.m. after union members voted over the weekend to reject the company's contract offer.

Company spokesman Mike Siemienas said the company believed the offer was a generous one and provided for a 50 cents-an-hour wage increase over two years.

Siemienas said most of the workers involved in the strike make more than $20 an hour.

He said the offer included a $500 bonus if workers ratified the agreement.

Walz said union workers ratified the contract in a vote this morning after the company agreed to change some language and to make the wage increase happen sooner.

Siemienas said the company had a plan in place in case of a strike and the picketing at the Fargo Supervalu distribution center did not disrupt service to area stores, including Hornbacher's stores, which are owned by Supervalu.
