Hackers gained access to customer information from the parent company of Caribou and Bruegger’s Bagels, the company said.
The breach happened between Aug. 28 and Dec. 3 at more than 200 of its stores, mainly in Minnesota. About 200 of the affected stores are in Minnesota. The other branches affected are in Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa and a few East Coast states.
Caribou said it is possible customer name and credit card information may have been stolen. The company said it believes the breach was contained, but customers should still monitor their credit card statements.
Payments through Caribou Coffee Perks accounts or other loyalty accounts weren’t affected, the company said.
