Hugo's to donate thousands of gallons of milk to food banks
Hugo's and Dean Foods will donate more than 7,800 gallons of milk Tuesday to the Great Plains Food Bank and the North Country Food Bank.
The milk was collected from October donations by Hugo's shoppers during the Great American Milk Drive, according to a release from the Great Plains Food bank.
Hugo's and Dean Foods also made donations. The final total added up to 7,842 gallons of milk.
That's enough for 125,000 servings.
This is the third or fourth year Hugo's has made a donation like this, said Great Plains Food Bank spokesman Jared Slinde.
"This donation has come at a crucial time," Slinde said. "And a lot of people may not realize it, but milk is a really sought-after donation, This type of donation is vital."
The gallons will go to Great Plains Food Bank partners agencies in Grand Forks, Grafton and Jamestown. North Country Food Bank partner agencies in East Grand Forks, Crookston, Thief River Falls and Park Rapid also will get milk.
The donation will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hugo's on 32nd Avenue South in Grand Forks.
