Perkins Restaurant and Bakery, 1305 S. Columbia Road, will remain unaffected and open for business, after Perkins & Marie Callender’s LLC closed 29 corporate locations on Sunday, Aug. 4, and has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to a statement from the company released a day later.
The closures involve only corporate-owned restaurants. Perkins restaurant in Grand Forks is a franchise and will remain open for business.
The company closed 10 Perkins and 19 Marie Callender’s locations. While Perkins is a familiar name in North Dakota, with locations in Grand Forks, Fargo and Bismarck, among others, Marie Callender’s is primarily located in California, with locations in a few other areas.
“Grand Forks Perkins is just doing awesome,” said Tim Brandt, owner of the franchise. “We finished our best year ever last year and are beating it this year, so we’re doing fine.”
The move occurred as the company is preparing to sell it’s Perkins LLC business, as well as its Foxtail Bakery business. Foxtail supplies all the baked goods for Perkins in-store bakeries and to other third-party customers.
“I’m not affected by the corporate restructuring. I own the franchise rights, but I am independent of them. I just use their name,” said Brandt. “We’re going great here.”
