One Grand Forks business failed an alcohol compliance check from the Grand Forks Police Department this week.
JL Beers was the only business of the 21 checked that did not pass.
The employee who served the alcohol to a minor was issued a citation, said Sergeant Duane Simon with the Grand Forks Police Department. The situation will be referred to the Grand Forks City Attorney's Office, who will decide if there is any further punishment, such as a fine or a suspension.
The compliance checks are performed with help from Grand Forks residents under 21. They order a drink without trying to hide the fact they are underage.
Simon said that JL Beers has not failed a compliance check in the past. Many times, there are no businesses that fail during alcohol or tobacco compliance checks, Simon said.
“Most of our businesses are very compliant,” Simon said. “We are very happy with the results.”
