Mamma Maria’s opened under new ownership on Wednesday.
Kristen Scheving, her brother, Justin Hatcher, and grandfather, Steve Yanisch, are the new owners of the restaurant, 211 DeMers Ave., in East Grand Forks.
Mamma Maria’s will be open from 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday until the end of June, Scheving said. At the end of June, the Italian eatery will return to its normal hours from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
“We’re really excited. We have a lot of the same staff, so customers will be seeing some familiar faces,” Scheving said. “It is really helpful to have people who are knowledgeable about the menu and the restaurant.”
That includes Scheving, who has worked at Mamma Maria’s since she was 16.
“I started as a dishwasher, I’ve tended bar, I’ve done some managing,” Scheving said.
Scheving said both she and her brother graduated from Sacred Heart and grew up working at the River Cinema.
“We’re a part of this community, and we’re looking forward to becoming an even bigger part,” Scheving said. “This place is really close to my heart. I couldn’t see it close.”
Mamma Maria’s will be offering 30% off for old gift cards. Scheving said the free birthday special has been changed. Customers can choose from the “My Favorite Pasta” section of the menu and receive a free birthday meal.
