A downtown bakery in Grand Forks will open this week.

Paola's Pastries, which moved into 110 N. Third St., will start selling pastries at 10 a.m. Friday, owner Maria Chaparro said Thursday. It will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Taking over the space that was once occupied by Helix Wine and Bites before the wine bar moved to south Grand Forks. Chaparro previously told the Herald she started her business at home in 2013 to share her passion for cakes, cupcakes, pies and other baked goods.

She has made custom-ordered cakes for special occasions, adding her business was doing so well that she wanted to move it out of her home into a storefront. She thought a downtown location had the most potential.
