North Dakota Sen. Tom Campbell, R-Grafton, has been appointed to a regional committee of lawmakers examining trade and border security issues with Canada.

Campbell is a member of the Midwestern Legislative Conference's Midwest-Canada Relations Committee. He'll work with leaders from 11 states and four Canadian provinces, according to a press release.

North Dakota sent $4.1 billion worth of exports to Canada in 2014, while the state imported $2.6 billion.

The committee is part of the Council of State Governments, a national policy organization that "alerts state elected and appointed officials in all three branches of government to emerging social, economic and political trends," according to a press release.
