The city of East Grand Forks has received plans for a hotel next to the Liberty Lanes bowling alley and Shopko store.

The plans call for a 67-room three-story Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott to be built on a vacant lot at the corner of Fifth Avenue Northeast and the frontage road of U.S. Highway 2.

Randy Gust, the city building inspector, said a building permit has already been issued and he expects initial construction to start soon.

City Administrator David Murphy said in his weekly memo posted on the city’s website that Proll Enterprises has submitted “a request for an (Economic Development Authority) loan for the hotel to be constructed east of Shopko.”

“This will be before the EDA in the near future,” he said.

Murphy said Thursday afternoon that Todd Innes is the developer of the project.
