Midco acquires fixed wireless internet provider from northwest Minnesota

A Minneapolis-based company that provides internet, cable and other networking services to the Grand Forks region has acquired a fixed wireless internet provider in Warren, Minn.

A Minneapolis-based company that provides internet, cable and other networking services to the Grand Forks region has acquired a fixed wireless internet provider in Warren, Minn.

Midco announced Thursday it had acquired InvisiMax, which serves more than 4,000 customers in the Fargo and Grand Forks areas, according to a news release.

“We want to help solve the digital divide in rural America, and this acquisition is a cost effective

way for us to do so,” said Steve Grosser, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Midco. “We have the opportunity to learn a new technology platform from a skilled team of employees and see where we can take it in the future.”

Founded in 1996 in Hallock, Minn., InvisiMax has 19 employees who will be offered jobs with the Midco team, Midco spokeswoman Paige Pearson Meyer said. Operations will continue at Warren, InvisiMax CEO Dave Giles wrote in an email to the Herald.

“Midco is the best company that we could have hoped to sell our assets to,” Giles said, adding he has been asked to join Midco’s leadership. “Best for our customer base, best for our employees, InvisiMax has a great network for Midco to get in to the fixed wireless broadband industry.”

InvisiMax provided services to about 75 cities in northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. The company sent a letter to customers Thursday informing them of the merger.

Midco provides services in 342 communities in North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Kansas.
