Susan Marvin, the president of Warroad, Minn., based Marvin Windows and Doors, was presented with Bemidji State University's 2011 Distinguished Minnesotan Award during a university commencement ceremony Friday.
The award, first given out in 1981, honors those who have provided exceptional service to people in Minnesota and the nation. Marvin's father, the late William S. Marvin, received the award in 1990.
Marvin oversees the family window and door business, which includes the Integrity and Infinity brands. She is a 1979 graduate of the University of Minnesota's Twin Cities campus. Marvin and her husband, Keith Schwartzwald, split their time between Warroad and Minneapolis.
"Susan Marvin is a stellar example of what the Distinguished Minnesotan Award is all about," Bemidji State President Richard Hanson wrote in a prepared statement. "A product of Northern Minnesota, she has remained firmly rooted in her commitment to the area while generously sharing her leadership talents with state and national organizations."
Marvin said she is "deeply honored" to receive the award.

"This recognition reflects the accomplishments of a larger community -- the amazing group of talented people whose goal is to lead an industry and have succeeded in doing so," she wrote in a prepared statement. "So that's why I'm accepting this honor on behalf of my family and our community."
