Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., announced today that the U.S. Air Force expects to sign a final lease for an unmanned aircraft systems business park in early June.
Grand Forks County will rent 217 acres at the Grand Forks Air Force Base for the Grand Sky park. The county will provide payments to the Air Force in exchange for the 50-year lease.
“The agreement we’re forging in North Dakota between Grand Forks County, the Air Force and Northrop Grumman will help create one of the premier hubs in this country for developing unmanned aerial system technologies,” Hoeven said in a news release. “We appreciate the Air Force’s support for the Grand Sky and the enhanced use lease."
Northrop Grumman is set to be the anchor tenant at Grand Sky, he said.
Grand Forks County commissioners selected FDSL as the developer for the project. Officials from three Native American tribes have asked to survey the land for any historical sites before construction begins.
