A downtown Grand Forks hotel has left a hotel chain so it can operate independently.
The hotel formerly known as the Red Roof Inn now is called the Townhouse Hotel, general manager Jessica Sivertson said Tuesday. The changeover happened Sept. 24 after the owners, IDA Hospitality of Winnipeg, decided to leave the Red Roof Inn chain, she added.
She declined to say why the owners made the move to become independent.
Located at 710 First Ave. N., the Townhouse Hotel was built in 1975. IDA purchased the hotel in 2013 before changing the name from GuestHouse TownHouse to the Red Roof Inn. That change was official on Sept. 24, 2014.

Since then, the hotel has gone through several renovations.
