Homeowners, interior designers and DIY-ers soon will have a new resource in Grand Forks.
Timber and Ash Designs will open April 13. The retailer, at 2915 S. Washington St., will make and sell furniture and also sell a variety of wood and finishing products. Timber and Ash also makes custom-order furniture and woodworking designs, which make up the majority of their business.
Husband and wife owners Jacob and Aubrey Barney get wood from Brazil, Costa Rica, the East and West coasts and Minnesota and North Dakota.
"You can buy wood, you can buy furniture, you can ask us to make something for you and we will," Jacob said. "We're kind of a one stop shop."
Jacob does most of the building, and Aubrey runs most of the back-end business processes, like accounting duties. Jacob's dad was a building contractor who introduced him to the craft.

The pair started the business from their home, selling things like coasters, floating shelves and charcuterie boards.
"This whole thing started by making custom things for people," Jacob said.
The couple had been doing business out of their home since 2014, Jacob said, and decided to move into a storefront this year.
"It had been something we've thought about for quite a while," Jacob said. "And the store on Washington has good access."
Jacob said Timber and Ash Designs has done projects for Half Brothers Brewing Company in downtown Grand Forks and has plans to work with several other downtown businesses.
