The Grand Forks County Commission decided to have a committee delve into the county's pay scale, which has been debated since last fall.
The group will consist of Grand Forks County Correctional Center Administrator Bret Burkholder, Vicky Hendrickson of the county payroll department, Lynn Johnson of Grand Forks County Social Services, Michelle Olson of the Sheriff's Office and Commissioner David Engen.
Aside from Engen, the group last year discussed ways to address less experienced employees getting paid as much as those with more experience, which is referred to as compression.
St. Paul's Fox Lawson and Associates consulting firm, now called Gallagher Benefit Services Inc., presented the county with several pay scale options in May, but many employees continued to voice concerns with those solutions even after they submitted questions to consultant James Fox and received answers.
"Clearly we didn't receive the answers from Fox Gallagher, and maybe they're not totally to blame for that," Commissioner Tom Falck said.

As a result, commissioners decided at a meeting Tuesday the committee would present its findings to the Administrative Services Committee before it came before the full commission again.
