Thief River Falls business owners have opened a candy shop in Grand Forks.

The Candy Corner started selling sweets April 1 in the former Zales store in the Columbia Mall. Zales, a national jewelry chain based in Texas, left the mall at the end of December.

The new tenants of the almost 1,500 square-foot space boast hundreds of candies from different parts of the world, said co-owner and general manager Bucky Cameron. She and her husband, David, own Eclectic Collections and Confections in Thief River Falls and wanted to open a candy store in Grand Forks, she said.

“I’m hoping we will be a destination place that will increase the foot traffic of the mall,” she said.

Bucky Cameron plans to sell the Thief River Falls store to one of her employees. She said a lot of things fell into place for opening the store in Grand Forks, which has about 10 employees.

She also noted the candy business tends to bring out happiness in people, adding she wants to “leave the world a better place” in her own small way.

“Everybody becomes a kid again,” she said. “It may only last a couple of minutes or 30 minutes, but it takes you back and it makes you happy.”
