Grand Forks-based Airtonomy announced it has been chosen as one of 13 semifinalists for a $1 million award from GENIUS NY.
GENIUS NY is a business accelerator competition in central New York. It specializes in funding unmanned systems, robotic and big data startups.
Airtonomy is the only finalist based in North Dakota, and it is competing against others from across the country, as well as places such as Netherlands, Switzerland, Israel, Germany and Poland.
Each of the semifinalists interviewed for GENIUS NY’s panel of executive advisors in June, and five finalists will be selected for entry into the GENIUS NY program. The judges are looking for companies with plans to stay in the central New York area.
Once chosen, the finalists will arrive in central New York later this month to begin work at The Tech Garden in Syracuse, N.Y. Finals Night is held in late fall, and the finalists will pitch their technologies live to a panel of judges. The grand prize winner receives $1 million, while the remaining four teams will receive $500,000 each.
