The Dak Minn Blood Bank is suffering from a critical shortage of blood donations.
Anyone with Type A Positive, A Negative and O-Negative blood types are strongly encouraged to donate, as these are currently the most needed blood types.
Dak Minn Blood Bank Donor Relations Coordinator Monica Janssen said the shortage stemmed from the COVID-19 pandemic, and that there is a shortage of blood donations on a national scale – not just in the region.
“Donors just haven’t been coming back to donate,” Janssen said. “The transfusions and elective procedures have all started to pick up now that the pandemic is slowly getting back to normal, and the donations just aren’t at that same point yet.”
People who are interested in donating can schedule an appointment by calling 701-780-5433, or by going to DakMinnBloodBank.org to schedule one online.
