Newman selected as finalist
Randy Newman, chairman, president and CEO of Alerus Financial, has been selected as a finalist for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year award in the Upper Midwest. The awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in their businesses and communities. The winner will be announced Nov. 19 in Palm Springs, Calif.
Altru Health System recognized
Altru Health System has been awarded an "A" in hospital safety in the Leapfrog Group's spring Hospital Safety Score assessment. This score recognizes Altru's commitment to patient safety.

Communications contest winners announced
The following are winners of the North Dakota Professional Communicators Communications Contest. Suzanne Irwin of Grand Forks won first in online video and television advertising, second in advertising campaigns and third in social media campaign and website edited or managed by entrant. Pamela Knudson of Grand Forks won seven first place awards in speciality articles, second in feature story and third in specialty articles. The first place awards have been entered in the National Federation of Press Women contest and will be announced September.
Acme Tools recognized
Acme Tools in Grand Forks was named the 2015 Tier 1 Distributor Member of the Year by Evergreen Marketing Group as its Annual PArtnership Conference in Dallas, Texas. The award is given based on contribution, growth, participation and member and manufacturer input.
Blake named CEO
The Polar Communications Board of Directors in Park River, N.D., has hired Karl Blake as its CEO and general manager. Blake is the chief operating officer at the company and has been with Polar since 1996.
