A new women's clothing boutique with an ambiguous name is opening on the south side of Grand Forks in a few months.

Lacey Tronnes and her business partner Amanda Michael are opening their first venture, pretty b. at 2650 32nd Ave. S., near the intersection with Columbia Road. Tronnes said they plan to open in August.

They'll sell women's clothes and some accessories. And while they want to appeal to every demographic, they want to focus on the 25- to 45-year-olds.

"We're trying to fill that void that sometimes gets overlooked," Tronnes said.
Tronnes and Michael's store follows the recent opening of several women's clothing boutiques around town, including Curious Clothing, Mainstream Boutique and Key Bliss Boutique.

Tronnes said they're both learning about the ins and outs of starting their own business. She is a UND student, and Michael has been working elsewhere.

"We both just kind of realized that we wanted to do something for ourselves," she said. "We also wanted to provide cute and affordable clothes to people here."

As for the name, pretty b's true meaning is being kept between Tronnes and Michael.

"We kind of like to leave it up to interpretation," Tronnes said. "It's been kind of interesting because it can be kind of ambiguous and fun that way."

International food market on Washington

Drivers on South Washington Street may have noticed a new sign signaling a new business coming to the former Quiznos location at 1020 S. Washington St. in Grand Forks.

Safari Market will be a international food market and coffee shop, said owner Sainab Yussuf. She's not sure when she'll open.

The store will replace one of Grand Forks' Quiznos locations. The local owners closed that store but kept the 32nd Avenue South location open.

Hugo's supermarkets expects to break ground on a new grocery store in far south Grand Forks next spring or summer, the chain's president Kristi Magnuson Nelson wrote in an email last week.

"We continue to work on the design for the new store," she wrote. That store is part of a larger planned development near the intersection of South Washington Street and 47th Avenue South.

Part of those plans include townhomes. Magnuson Nelson said eight units are available for lease and 16 units are are for sale.

The east side of that housing development will be completed by June, she added.
