The owner of a shop planned for south Grand Forks wants customers to imagine that stepping through her door will be like walking into a piece of New York.

“When you walk in you feel like you’re in a loft in SoHo,” said Brianne Osowski, referring to the artsy, gallery-filled neighborhood of Manhattan, a place where “you could walk around and always find something unique, fun and different.”

Osowksi, originally from Argyle, Minn., lived in New York for eight years before moving to Grand Forks three years ago.

She wants her business, Curious, to reflect the years she lived in the city by offering distinctive and unusual gifts, artwork, décor, accessories and furniture.

“Tables and clocks and all kinds of different accent items for your home,” was her description. The store will be “carefully curated” with items that will “tell a story and start conversations.”

Osowski is renovating the space formerly occupied by Ferguson Books at 3750 32nd Ave. S., where she hopes to open in May.

Walmart to open in April, gets bus route

A bus stop has been added to the future site of the Gateway Drive Walmart store, which is expected to open in early April.

The city of Grand Forks announced this week that Cities Area Transit’s Route 8 will stop at the corner of North 55th Street and 12th Avenue North at 49 minutes after the hour, every hour, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

The announcement is another step in preparation for the grand opening of the 181,000-square-foot store, which is possibly the most significant retail development on the city’s northwest.

Wal-Mart hasn’t announced a specific opening date.
