BISMARCK -- North Dakota’s first case of Anthrax this year has been confirmed in a Barnes County beef cow.
The announcement has state veterinarian Susan Keller urging North Dakota ranchers to make sure their livestock are vaccinated against the disease.
North Dakota usually has a few Anthrax cases every year.
A 2005 outbreak of the disease is believed to have killed more than 1,000 livestock.

Keller said an effective vaccine is available through licensed veterinarians, but it requires about one week to take effect.
