Gjovig appointed to North Dakota Export Council


A Grand Forks entrepreneur advocate has been appointed to the North Dakota District Export Council.

Former Center for Innovation Foundation CEO Bruce Gjovig was selected with five other new members to sit on the council that assists local companies with exporting issues, according to a news release. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced the appointments Tuesday.

“All six of our new DEC members bring a wealth of experience and perspective, and we’re pleased to be broadening our capabilities to support growth of exports from this region,” Thomas Shorma, North Dakota District Export Council chairman, said in the release. “The North Dakota DEC has demonstrated its impact with the local exporting community over many years, and we look forward to the new energy and ideas that our newest members will bring.”

Other appointments included Matt Breker of Fargo, Kevin Christensen of Williston, Olga Hall of Fargo, Kristin Hedger of Killdeer and Joel Jorgenson of Fargo.

April Baumgarten

April Baumgarten joined the Grand Forks Herald May 19, 2015, and covers crime and education. She grew up on a ranch 10 miles southeast of Belfield, where her family raises registered Hereford cattle. She double majored in communications and history/political science at Jamestown (N.D.) College, now known as University of Jamestown. During her time at the college, she worked as a reporter and editor-in-chief for the university's newspaper, The Collegian. Baumgarten previously worked for The Dickinson Press as a city government and energy reporter in 2011 before becoming the editor of the Hazen Star and Center Republican. She then returned to The Press as a news editor, where she helped lead an award-winning newsroom in recording the historical oil boom.
