Agriculture Department to get $3.1M for specialty crops programs

BISMARCK -- The North Dakota Department of Agriculture will receive more than $3.1 million for specialty crops, North Dakota's congressional delegation announced Thursday.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded the funds as part of the 2014 Farm Bill and will split the funds between 37 projects.

Organizations partnering with the North Dakota Department of Agriculture to implement the projects include North Dakota State University, the National Sunflower Association, the Northern Plains Sustainable Agriculture Society, the North Dakota Trade Office, the Williston Ag Diversification Group, the Entrepreneurial Center for Horticulture at Dakota College at Bottineau, the Dakota Prairies Resource Conservation & Development Council, the Northern Pulse Growers Association, and the Aneta Specialty Crop Group.

Several meetings will be held Oct. 7-17 in Grand Forks, Langdon, Devils Lake, Minot, Williston, Dickinson, Bismarck, Jamestown, Lisbon and Fargo to discuss the programs. For more information go to www.ag.ndsu.edu/farmmanagement/farm-bill .
