A relocation guide for moving to Grand Forks and an accompanying blog are among the recipients of the 2021 Main Street Awards.
The Greater Grand Forks Relocation Guide and the “What’s Cooler Today?” blog created through InternGF, were selected as winners of the 21st Century Workforce Award. The awards are given out as part of Gov. Doug Burgum’s Main Street Initiative, which focuses on creating vibrant communities, smart, efficient infrastructure and attracting and retaining a modern workforce. The guide and blog can be found at grandforksiscooler.com
“We are deeply grateful for the efforts seen across North Dakota by communities that are passionate about applying the principles of the Main Street Initiative,” Burgum said in a Wednesday, Sept. 8 release.
According to that release, InternGF “provides hands-on learning experiences for students at the University of North Dakota.” The program helps students find needed work experience to increase employability, and has partnered with UND, private businesses and community startups.
Devils Lake received a similar award, for its 20 by 20 Skilled Workforce Recruitment and Retention Program. The program enjoins high school counselors and administrators to inform graduating youth of in-demand career opportunities in the Devils Lake area, with the goal of encouraging students to consider a local career in a skilled and technical program.
Other award recipients include: the towns of Lisbon, Milnor, Hettinger, Bottineau and Bowman County.
The Main Street Awards are a collaborative effort of the Office of the Governor and the state Department of Commerce. Final awards will be presented at the Main Street N.D. Summit on Oct. 12, in West Fargo, North Dakota. Information and registration for the summit can be found at mainstreetsummitnd.com
