Q: What happened to all of the Valley Dairy gas stations in town? Are they now Marathon gas stations? Did ownership change?

A. Valley Dairy is still owned by Farmers Union Oil Company of Moorhead, Minn., which also does business as Petro Serve USA. Under the Petro Serve name, the company operates 21 gas stations in North Dakota and Minnesota, with most of those locations concentrated in the Fargo/Moorhead area, though the company has locations in other cities, including Valley City and Mandan.

In Grand Forks, the retail name is Valley Dairy. The change in signage at the gas station locations reflects a change in the company's gasoline provider, which is now Marathon.

“We’re still Valley Dairy. Nothing has changed,” said Clark Erickson, at the company’s West Fargo office. “(Stations) just have 'Marathon' on the gas.”

The Marathon Petroleum Corporation is headquartered in Findlay, Ohio. According to the company’s website, it operates the largest refining system in the country, with 16 refineries capable of processing 3 million barrels of crude oil per day.
