The North Dakota Department of Commerce is set to begin accepting applications for its Economic Resiliency Grants in the coming days.

The grant program provides eligible businesses and nonprofit organizations with funding to recover the cost of improvements and upgrades that help prevent the spread of COVID-19, while keeping consumers confident in returning to the marketplace. Businesses with a single location in North Dakota are eligible for up to $50,000, while those with multiple locations can receive up to $100,000.

Grants will be given on a first-come, first-served basis and come from a pool of $66.4 million set aside from the state’s allotment of federal CARES Act money. The grant can be used to reimburse a business for improvements made after March 27. The deadline for the first round of applications is Aug. 28. Additional rounds of funding will be available if the pool is not exhausted by that date.

In an August 6 newsletter, the Department of Commerce recommends business owners do the following, to prepare for the application process:

-- Have a detailed explanation of the project or business enhancement. If the work has already been completed, those receipts can be submitted for reimbursement.
