UND’s basketball team may not have made the Final Four, but a downtown Grand Forks bar is representing the state instead.

After a nail-bitingly close race, Joe Black’s Bar squeaked into the Barstool Best Bar Bracket’s Final Four slot Thursday afternoon with 51 percent of the vote. The bar defeated Washington State University’s best college bar, The Coug. The bars were tied two hours before voting ended.

Voting on this next round begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6.

Joe Black’s will face Penn State’s Champs bar in the next round. The competition could prove to be a challenge because Champs has a vocal celebrity endorsement from Joe Jonas. The pop star celebrated his 21st birthday at Champs and has performed at the bar, according to his tweets.

Rutgers University’s Scarlet Pub is facing off against East Carolina University’s Sup Dogs bar.

The competition began March 21 with 60 bars across the country. To vote for Joe Black's tweet #BarstoolJoeBlacks and #BarstoolBestBar, both hashtags must be included for the vote to count. Voting remains open until 1 p.m. Monday.

The winning bar will have a “big blowout party complete with a bar tab, our inaugural perpetual trophy, a banner to hang as they please, barstool merchandise and more,” according to the account.
