Kittsona could be heading to small claims court for allegedly not paying rent on its Bismarck location.
The boutique hadn't paid rent since August, Bismarck landlord Scott Johnson alleges in court documents. The owner of the building is suing Kittsona for almost $15,000 in unpaid rent.
However, co-owner of Kittsona, Nicole Johnson, says that there was not an active lease.
"We are no longer in an active lease with the Bismarck landlord; we haven't been since last fall," Johnson said. "We are currently in talks with (our landlord) on negotiating a deal. Things are peaceful, and we are close to working out a deal about our occupancy there in the last few months that the record is reflecting."
The store in Bismarck closed Feb. 15.
Papers were served to Johnson, co-owner of Kittsona, at the Grand Forks location.
Kittsona also has locations in Fargo and Minneapolis. Johnson and Tessa Hiney opened Kittsona in November of 2011.
