FORDVILLE, N.D.—As the rain died down Saturday morning, dirt bikes began to fire up to take on a 165-foot challenge at the annual Fordville Hill Climb. The hill climb, which completed its 17th season, started off the same as it did last year with crowds waiting over an hour for the light showers to end. Once the tarps were pulled off the face of the hill, bikes began lining up at the bottom. Only the more experienced riders reached the summit, leaving many participants tumbling after facing the tough vertical challenge.
STEELE, N.D.—A Florida resident died early Saturday morning after a truck driven by a Grand Forks man overturned in a ditch north of Steele. The truck, driven by 22-year-old James Whitney of Grand Forks, was southbound at 5:40 a.m. on N.D. Highway 3 about 9 miles north of Steele when it partially went off the west side of the highway, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The truck then went into the east ditch, where it overturned.
In town for the Fourth of July? Grand Forks will be bursting with patriotism this Independence Day. Fireworks will fly at 10:30 p.m. over the Red River Greenway, but there is plenty to do during the day. Register between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. to participate in the 8 a.m. Altru Family YMCA Firecracker Run/Walk. Starting at noon in the Town Square, there will be a silent auction, a performance by the Grand Forks City Band and the Sertoma Kiddie Parade from North Third Street to the Town Square that precedes a flag raising to open the festivities.

First Presbyterian Church to present music First Presbyterian Church, 5555 S. Washington Street, Grand Forks will present Music On The Edge at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Jores to perform at Polk County Fair The Jores will perform country gospel at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Polk County Fair. Band members are Phil Jore, C'Dale Jore, Karli Keck and Piper Keck.
Two people were taken to the hospital after two vehicles collided at Fifth Avenue North and North Fifth Street in Grand Forks, next to the M&H gas station, at 9:13 p.m. Friday. Grand Forks Police Sgt. Duane Simon said emergency personnel responded to the scene, where a Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound on Fifth Avenue North and a Honda CRV was northbound on North Fifth Street. The vehicles collided in the intersection, sending the Honda spinning while the Dodge continued down Fifth Avenue North until coming to a stop farther down the street.
LARIMORE, N.D.—Road construction will disrupt traffic beginning July 11 at N.D. Highway 18 and U.S. Highway 2 near Larimore. Crews will fix turn lanes on Highway 2, light the intersection and improve rest areas. Work is expected to be completed July 26.
The Kennedy Covenant Church in Kennedy, Minn., will host a benefit barbecue and concert for Kenny Hultgren 5 to 8 p.m. July 13. On May 11, Kenny experienced a life-threatening blood infection, causing damage to vital organs and necessitating an extended hospitalization.
