A Grand Forks woman who had been facing life in prison on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school has scheduled hearing for a change of plea this month. On Thursday, Katie Ann Feist, 32, and her attorney reached a settlement agreement with the Grand Forks County state's attorney's office. Her change of plea hearing is scheduled for Sept. 19. Feist was initially charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute or manufacture, a Class AA felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.
A Fort Totten, N.D., man is in jail after allegedly breaking into a home and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl inside. Jason Jerome Littlewind, 29, has been charged with one count of sexual assault, a Class C felony, and one count of burglary, a Class B felony, in a break-in and assault upon a minor. According the affidavit, Littlewind entered a Ramsey County home through a kitchen window the evening of Sept. 3. Littlewind then entered the bedroom of a 15-year-old girl and attempted to force himself upon her, the complaint said.
An East Grand Forks woman faces charges after allegedly stealing pull tabs from a Grand Forks bar and assaulting a gaming employee who confronted her. Shandi Marie Comeau, 30, has been charged with robbery using strong arm tactics, a Class C felony, after she took multiple pull tabs from El Roco Bar and Bottle Shop on Sept. 2, police say.
The phones started ringing the moment the storm stopped for professional cleaners around Grand Forks this weekend. Glenn Reck, a third-generation cleaner at Merle's Steam Clean in Grand Forks, said the messages began coming in about 2 a.m. Sunday and haven't stopped since. He's been busy. "I'm pretty sure every carpet cleaner in the area is swamped," he said. Grand Forks received about 5 inches of rain on Sunday, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Al Voelker.
