Sturgeon have been running thick this spring as they spawn at the mouth of the Rapid River, a tributary of the Rainy River in Clementson, Minn., about six miles east of Baudette, Minn. Tom Heinrich, large lake specialist for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in Baudette, watches spawning sturgeon last Sunday. A bill that would have required sportsmen to ask permission to enter private land even if it wasn't posted fell to defeat in the North Dakota Senate, but the trespass issue isn't likely to go away anytime soon.
