Shadae Quient of Warren, Minn., caught and released this catfish May 21 while fishing the Red River near Oslo, Minn. She didn't weigh or measure the fish, but reliable sources estimate the cat weighed 15 to 18 pounds. Quient said the fish is the largest she's ever caught.

A native of Hastings, Neb., Chance-Ossowski said the catfishing in Manitoba is unlike anything he ever has experienced in his home state. Connor Cleven, Thief River Falls, caught and released this 38-inch northern pike Aug. 12 while fishing with Bruce Henschel on Lake of the Woods. "He had just used his new fishing rod for the first time that he received for his 10th birthday," Henschel writes. "He didn't stop smiling the rest of the day."
