The east end of Lake Vermilion produces plenty of eating-size walleyes, while the west end produces mostly larger walleyes that fall within the lake's 18- to 26-inch protected slot limit. Lucas Keizer, 8, of Detroit Lakes, Minn., caught and released this 21.4-pound catfish Sunday on the Red River near Grand Forks. Lucas is a third-grader at Holy Rosary School in Detroit Lakes.
