BOYS TENNIS:

Red River 9, Wahpeton 0: Grand Forks Red River opened its season with a sweep at every position in beating host Wahpeton on Tuesday.

Red River didn’t lose more than two games in any of the nine matches, sweeping six matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Saylor Kuenzel and Jett Weis picked up their first varsity wins.

“We played well for our first match,’’ Red River coach Greg LaDouceur said.

GF Central 9, West Fargo 0: Central swept in eight of the nine matches in claiming the home victory Tuesday.

Central didn't lose more than two games in any of the singles matches, with Hunter Bjorge at No. 5 and Chase Spicer at No. 6 each claiming 6-0, 6-0 victories.

PREP VOLLEYBALL:

EGF Senior HIgh downs Warren: A quick start by East Grand Forks Senior High carried the Green Wave past Warren-Alvarado-Oslo on Tuesday night. The Wave won 25-11, 25-21, 25-23.

“We came out ready to play,” said Senior High coach Paula Devine. “We played solid defense and served at 96 percent, including 16 aces.”

Oksana Kroese led the Wave with eight kills. Faith Porter led W-A-O with eight kills

Shanley downs Red River: Fargo Shanley swept Grand Forks Red River on Tuesday night in the  Riders gym, winning 25-22, 25-18, 25-22.

Alex Page and Karlie Robson each had seven kills for the Riders. Kaylee Lancaster added five kills for Red River.

North upends Central: Fargo North edged Grand Forks Central in volleyball Tuesday night. The Spartans won 25-15, 22-25, 27-25, 25-23. Sophie McGee had nine kills for Central while Katie Noreen added eight.

Sacred Heart nips KCC: Ivy Edwards had 16 kills while Jessica Remer added 15 as Sacred Heart edged Kittson County Central 17-25, 25-18, 25-23, 17-25, 16-14 on Tuesday night

BOYS SOCCER

Fargo South 2, GF Central 1: Grand Forks Central suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday night, falling to Fargo South.

William Lawson-Body’s goal at 24 minutes tied the game at 1-1, but the Bruins won it on Alvin Johnson’s goal at 52 minutes. Will Howard stopped seven shots in goal for Central.

Red River 2, Fargo North 0: Shayan Rasouli and Suraj Magar scored second-half goals to lead Red River past Fargo North on Tuesday.

Red River’s Mason Thingvold stopped two shots in goal while North’s Drew Nelson came up with 12 stops.

GIRLS SOCCER

Senior High 2, Sartell 1: Chloe Torgerson and Breanna Olson scored goals to give East Grand Forks Senior High a section win Tuesday at Sartell.

Cat Gordon finished with 10 stops in goal for the Wave.
