ICE TIME: Get to know Dillon Simpson

Q. What's your nickname?

A. Simmer.

Q. How'd you get it?

A. It's something I came here with and guys just bought into it right away.

Q. What's your favorite TV show?

A. Probably Seinfeld or The Office.

Q. What's your favorite movie?

A. Probably Inception.

Q. What's your favorite place to eat in Grand Forks?

A. Darcy's for breakfast, Amazing Grains for lunch and Little Bangkok for dinner.

Q. What do you get?

A. Darcy's: Dave's Special. Amazing Grains: No. 3 sandwich. And Tiger Roll at Bangkok.

Q. If you have to cook something, what's your go-to?

A. Probably a chicken stir-fry.

Q. What's your favorite part about Grand Forks?

A. The community, for sure, and just the way the people approach the hockey program and how supportive the whole community is. It's pretty cool to see.

Q. What's something we don't know about your hometown of Edmonton?

A. Hmmm, Edmonton, Alberta. . . there's not a lot of cool facts. I think we have more park areas than Central Park in New York. I don't know how I know that, but I do know that.

Q. What's the best Halloween costume you've ever had?

A. I was a big fan of Barney back in the day, so I think as a kid, I went like five years in a row as Barney.

Q. What's the best Christmas give you've received?

A. Z-Bubble was my first non-wood stick I've ever gotten. I remember that, for sure.

Q. What's your best sport other than hockey?

A. I'd have to go with golf, something I still play. Other than hockey, that's the only other sport I took seriously. We never had a school golf team, but I was a member at a course since I was like 11.

Q. Who was your childhood hero?

A. Besides like Superman? I was a big Batman fan, actually, growing up. But real life, probably Nicklas Lidstrom. I really looked up to him, especially in hockey.

Q. Who is your biggest fan?

A. My mom. For sure.

Q. What's the most embarrassing song on your playlist?

A. Probably a couple Justin Bieber songs on there. I don't know which one, but there's a lot of them, so we'll go with those. He's Canadian, I've got to support him a little bit.

Q. What's your favorite pro sports team?

A. Oilers growing up for the NHL. And then, I'm a San Diego Chargers fan, oddly enough. It's not that fun, though.

Q. What's your favorite college class?

A. Hard to find a class you really love when you are doing accounting and finance all the time. There have been some finance classes where we've got to do some cool stuff. But other than that, nothing really.

Q. Besides pro athlete, what's your dream job?

A. I was going to say pro golfer, but... um... Tim Hennessy's gig is pretty good. I'd like that, I think.

Q. Do you have any pregame superstitions or rituals?

A. I play crib with our student trainer a lot early when I come to the rink. Other than that nothing really. I like to stick-handle out on the ice and do some stick stuff, but that's about it.
