GGF girls cross country preview

EGF Senior High

Coach: Kirk Misialek.

2017: Third at Section 8A meet.

Key graduation losses: None.

Top returners: Soph. Marin Garrett (9th at section, 75th at state), sr. McKenna Langerud (17th at section), 8th-grader Lydia Floden (18th at section), sr. McKenna Garrett (41st at section), soph. Quincie Floden (45th at section), jr. Gracie Coulter (62nd at section), soph. Kassidy Allard (72nd at section).

Potential new impact runners: Fr. Mikila Gudajtes.

Green Wave coach Misialek says: "Hopefully we'll be a little bit better. We were so young last year. We're a year stronger and a year more experienced. Our goal is to get to state as a team (with a top-two section finish). We've been knocking on that door. Our top-end kids will be strong. They put in a lot of miles over the summer. We have to improve our depth.''

GF Central

Coach: Sean Allan.

2017: Second at EDC Championships, second at state meet.

Key graduation losses: Rachel Torrey, Maia Jackson.

Returning state meet runners: Sr. Alexis Roehl (2nd at EDC, 9th at state), jr. Mikayla Weiss (3rd at EDC, 8th at state), soph. Lauren Harrison (10th at EDC, 23rd at state), soph. Sophia Roehl (31st at EDC, 51st at state), soph. Silje Kindseth (25th at EDC, 42nd at state), fr. Hannah Hynek (26th at EDC, 45th at state), soph. Nora Berry (56th at EDC, 104th at state).

Potential new impact runners: Jr. Maria Kroeber, fr. Madison Elden.

Knights coach Allan says: "I think we'll still be one of the top five teams in the state. With Alexis, Mikayla, Lauren and Sophia, we have four strong returning runners. Silje is coming off an injury, but I think she'll be right up there, too. We have to replace Rachel. It will take some time. We have some good young runners, but they have no varsity experience. It takes time to learn how to run a 5K race.''

Red River

Coach: Richard Dafoe.

2017: Sixth at EDC Championships, 10th at state meet.

Key graduation loss: Peytun Campbell.

Returning state meet runners: Fr. Campbell Dorsey (23rd at EDC, 25th at state), 8th-grader Emily Nelson (27th at EDC, 65th at state), soph. Morgan Stenseth (22nd at EDC, 67th at state), jr. soph. Claire Lapp (76th at EDC, 107th at state), 8th-grader Elizabeth Simon (74th at EDC, 123rd at state), soph. Gracia Larsen-Schmidt (84th at EDC, 133rd at state), fr. Naria Neubert (141st at EDC, 136th at state), soph. Kylie Severson (103rd at EDC, 158th at state).

Potential new impact runners: Jr. Shaelyn Johnson.

Roughriders coach Dafoe says: "We're young and poised to improve on what we did last year. We've improved from 18th at state three years ago to 16th two years ago to 10th last year. We have a good core group of girls who ran a lot over the summer. I feel we're a little stronger, a little deeper this year.''
