Grand Forks boys soccer preview

GF Central

Coach: George DuBois.

2017: 5-11-1, seventh in EDC.

Key graduation losses: Nick Dohman, Gavin Westereng, Mason Macias.

Returning regulars (goals-assists): Jr. William Lawson-Body (10-0), sr. Sylver Osodo (1-4), sr. Jace Johnson (2-2), soph. Jackson Macho (2-1), sr. Mason Smith (0-2), soph. Nicholas Veres (0-2), sr. Lucas Kanta, sr. Kyler Briske (1-1), sr. Davidson McLean, soph. Colton Mitchell.

Potential new impact players: Sr. Alec Humble, jr. Peter Loyland, soph. Wyatt Peterson.

Knights coach DuBois says: "We’ll have a lot of continuity with a pretty fair amount of kids returning who contributed last year. Lawson-Body took on the goal-scoring role last year. I feel we can have a nice supporting cast on offense. In particular I think Jackson Macho and Sylver Osodo should be able to help our scoring. We are inexperienced in goal. Juniors Caden Sultz and Will Howard are in the mix there. Finding a goalie will be a key for us.’’

GF Red River

Coach: Luke Glasoe.

2017: 5-7-5, sixth in EDC.

Key graduation losses: Cameron Blilie, Pat Janes, Keaton Gilbertson, Suman Tamang, Landon Hagen, Rapha Onyeka.

Returning regulars (goals-assists): Sr. Mohamud Yahye (7-3), sr. Maxx Andrade (all-EDC, 5-2), jr. Suraj Magar (3-3), fr. Dilson Gurung (1-2).

Potential new impact players: Soph. Angel De la Cruz, soph. Mustafe Abdi, jr. Bikash Pathek, jr. Logan Huus, jr. Shayan Rasouli.

Roughriders coach Glasoe says: "We have a large group of guys who are returning varsity players, some as starters, others who have been role players in the past and will be called upon this year to be key guys. The depth of our team is incredible. We have options at every position from our forwards back to our goalkeepers. It is a group of not only talented but resilient young men.’’
