Fargo graduate's wife wins gold medal in women's triathlon

RIO DE JANEIRO -- A North Dakota family is surely beaming with pride today.  Their daughter-in-law just won the gold medal in the women's triathlon at the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.

Gwen Jorgensen is married to Patrick Lemiuex, a Fargo North graduate.

He and his parents Craig and Jane Lemiuex, who live in Fargo, are in Rio for the games.

Jorgensen was the favorite to win today and pulled it off, coming in ahead of Switzerland's Nicola Spirig to secure the first ever gold medal in this event for the United States.

Her final time was 1 hour, 56 minutes, 16 seconds.

Jorgensen is a Wisconsin native.
