CROOKSTON—Jenny Bruun graduated from Crookston High School in 1996. Twenty-one years later, Ally Tiedemann is chasing Bruun in the Pirates' girls golf program.

Bruun is the lone Crookston High School grad to win a girls state golf championship, winning the Class A title as a senior.

Tiedemann finished sixth at state as a sophomore last season; only Bruun has been a higher placer at the state meet than the junior.

Tiedemann is not only a multi-sport athlete for the Pirates, but one of the top players in the state in each of her sports.

The left-handed swinging Tiedemann is a three-time state qualifier in golf, improving from 56th place as an eighth-grader to 31st as a freshman to last season's sixth-place finish.

In addition, Tiedemann and Amy Follette have won the Section 8A girls tennis doubles championship each of the past two seasons, with the duo finishing fourth at the state tournament last fall.

So which is tougher with the outcome on the line, serving match point for a win in tennis or having to sink a putt for a win on the golf course?

Tiedemann ranks the putt as the more difficult situation of the two. The success Tiedemann has had in tennis and golf indicates she's handled those pressure situations well in both sports.
