WEST FARGO — Shelby Gustafson scored 23 points to lead West Fargo to a win over visiting Grand Forks Red River in a quarterfinal round game of the North Dakota East Region tournament..

“It was a really good team effort from start to finish,” said Red River coach Kent Ripplinger. “The girls fought all the way through, and if a couple of bounces go our way, we could have had it tonight.”

Kennedi Sand also scored 15 points for the Packers. Allison Hillebrand and Hannah Arason led the Roughriders with 16 points each. Alexis Robson added 10.

Red River will drop to 6-15 on the year and needs to win Friday in a loser-game against Valley City to keep its season alive.

WAHPETON, N.D. — In the quarterfinals of the North Dakota Class A East Region Tournament on Tuesday, the Grand Forks Central Knights were defeated by Wahpeton, which was led in scoring by Carson Zarak with 14 points and Jack Christensen with 13.

“It was a tough, hard-fought game,” said Knights coach Dan Carlson. “We just didn’t make our shots and execute when we needed to.”

Central received 18 points from Jaylon Butler, 14 from Jake Mussman and eight from Josh Schumer.

The Knights will play Grand Forks Red River in a loser-out game Friday in Fargo as the East Region tournament continues.
