Events

• Sept. 15: Roseau-Lake of the Woods Sportsman Club 12th annual ATV Fun Run, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Beltrami Island State Forest. Register at 9 a.m. on the Krull Trail south of Roosevelt, Minn.; watch for signs to Carp Pit Recreation Area. Cost is $25 per person, includes catered lunch.

• Sept. 15-16: Buena Vista Fall Colors Festival, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days, Buena Vista Ski Area and Logging Village, 12 miles north of Bemidji on Beltrami County Road 15. • Sept. 19: Presentation, "Oh Deer! Implementing Traditional and Extreme Measures for Balancing Deer Populations in Suburbia," 7 p.m., Half Brothers Brewing Co., 17 N. Third St., Grand Forks. Jay Boulanger from the UND Department of Biology will lead the presentation, which is part of the monthly "Hopped Up On Science" events scheduled through December at the brewery.

• Sept. 25: "Birds and Beer Flights," Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre north of Winnipeg. Sample brews from 15 area craft breweries and local food while watching the nightly return of migrating waterfowl. Tickets: $40 for drinkers and $20 for drivers. Info: oakhammockmarsh.ca.

Brad Dokken

Brad Dokken is a reporter and editor of the Herald's Sunday Northland Outdoors pages. Dokken joined the Herald company in November 1985 as a copy editor for Agweek magazine and joined the Herald staff in 1989. He worked as a copy editor in the features and news departments before becoming outdoors editor in 1998.  A Roseau, Minn., native, Dokken is a graduate of Bemidji State University.
