Road work planned on key Beltrami forest roads
Portions of two of the main roads in Beltrami Island State Forest in northwest Minnesota are set to be closed for part of the summer for repairs and improvement projects.
The south end of Dick's Parkway will be closed starting early next week, likely starting sometime the afternoon Monday, July 23, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources said in a news release. Culverts are being replaced at two different locations on the south end of the parkway: between Gates Corner (at the Moose River Road intersection) and Malcolm Corner (north of Fourtown, Minn.).
The roadwork likely will take only a couple of weeks, but it could linger into late September depending on conditions.
The east side of the Thompson Forest Road will be closed for a longer period of time, likely 40 days or so, also starting sometime next week, the DNR said. The affected part of the road will be undergoing an upgrade similar to the work that was done a couple of years ago just east of Bemis Hill.
Please call Red Lake Wildlife Management Area headquarters at (218) 783-6861 before using the roads to make sure they are open.
