VALLEY CITY, N.D. — The Grand Forks Central boys tennis team started the season off with a 9-0 win over Valley City, highlighted by seventh-grader Kyle Stauss picking up his first career win at No. 6 singles.

The Knights also received singles wins from Kyle Folson (No.1), Dallas Chambers (No. 2), Christian Wedin (No. 3), Ethan Comeau (No. 4) and Matt Picklo (No. 5).

“I thought we showed up and played well today,” said Central coach Max Weisser. “Christian Wedin and Dallas Chambers looked good out there today. They set the tone early and we didn’t take the foot off the gas.”

The Knights improved to 1-0 and will host Wahpeton on Tuesday at University Park.

Girls soccer

EGF Senior High 8,

St. John’s Prep 0

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — Riley Koberinski scored four times and assisted once to lead the Green Wave to a win over St. John’s Prep on Friday.

Brooke Filipi, Paige Hjelle, Sara Hulteng and Nicole Schlenk also scored for Senior High, who improved to 2-0.

“The game went really well,” said EGF coach Marco Campoverde. “We tried out a couple of new things. We had a lot of young players that stepped in a and played great for us. The whole team contributed in a big way.”

Goalie Sam Rarick had eight saves in the shutout-win.

Senior High plays again today at St. Cloud Apollo.

Boys soccer

Hutchinson 0

HUTCHINSON, Minn. — East Grand Forks outshot Hutchinson 14-5 on the way to a 2-0 win on Friday.

Garrett Lieberg scored the game-winning goal at 64:00, then Austin Clifton scored the Green Wave’s second goal at 79:00.

“We played really well,” said Senior High coach Matt Stengl. “I think we played a lot better than the score sheet shows. We had a lot of good opportunities. We just continued to work hard in the hot and muggy weather.”

The Green Wave, who improved to 1-1, will host Walker on Thursday.
