Crookston wins

Crookston captured Monday’s East Grand Forks Invitational at Valley Golf Course. The Pirates, led by Brady Heppner’s 77, finished with a 318. East Grand Forks Senior High was second at 329.

Senior High was led by Casey Swanson and Kyle Thompson. Both finished with an 80.

“We’re just playing average golf right now,” said Senior High coach Jay Frydenlund. “It’s going to be tough to advance out of our subsection.”

Senior High will compete in the subsection meet next week in Crookston.

GF Red River 5,

Fargo South 3

FARGO — Jessica Dallman had a goal and two assists as Grand Forks Red River beat Fargo South on Monday.

The Roughriders, who improved to 6-4-1 in the East Region, travel to West Fargo today in a key matchup for fourth place in the region standings.

Against the Bruins, Kaitlyn Autrey, Lauren Hagen and Keana Burr also scored for the Riders.

“I liked that we got a lot of girls on the score sheet,” Red River coach Jessica Krog said. “Each forward we played had a point. We had a well-rounded attack.”

  •  Prep baseball: Jacob Leier picked up the pitching win as Thief River Falls beat East Grand Forks Senior High 6-1 on Monday at Stauss Park. Landon Sanders, Turner Storm and Wyatt Nelson each had two hits for the Prowlers, who plated five runs in the third inning. “They strung hits, and we threw in a couple of errors,” Senior High coach Garret Hjelle said. “It was a decent game other than the third inning. I don’t think we did as well as we could have had the plate.” The Green Wave, 10-4, plays a doubleheader in Crookston today.
  •  College baseball: Three Northland Community and Technical College players have been named to the Minnesota College Athletic Conference’s all-North Division team. The Pioneers selected are sophomore pitcher Michael Kinzler, freshman infielder-outfielder Riley Soderstrom and freshman pitcher-outfielder Preston Brown.
