Expected to be at Gonzaga this semester, Geno Crandall still enrolled at UND

One of NCAA basketball’s highest-profile graduate transfers this offseason hasn’t moved on from UND just yet.

Former Fighting Hawks guard Geno Crandall, who announced this summer his intent to transfer to Gonzaga, remains enrolled at UND, school officials confirmed Tuesday.

UND officials couldn’t elaborate further on the status of Crandall due to federal student privacy laws.

Last week, the Spokesman Review newspaper in Spokane, Wash., reported Crandall had yet to enroll at Gonzaga and had been removed from the team’s roster.

“Geno is continuing to work on his NCAA transfer requirements and we are excited for him to become a Zag,” Gonzaga sports information director Barrett Henderson told the Spokesman Review. He declined further comment.

Crandall told a number of media outlets after announcing his intent to transfer that he had remaining UND coursework in order to graduate this summer.

If Crandall doesn’t graduate until the end of the first semester, he can still transfer to Gonzaga and be eligible to play immediately.

Crandall, a two-time all-Big Sky Conference pick at UND, averaged 16.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists last season.

He scored 41 points against Troy in the season opener and had 28 in UND’s overtime loss to Gonzaga last December.

In helping UND to the school’s first NCAA tournament in 2017, Crandall averaged 15.5 points and 4.4 assists as a sophomore.

The Minneapolis native played on three state championship teams at DeLaSalle High School.

He took official visits to Xavier and Minnesota before deciding on Gonzaga.

Attempts to reach Crandall were unsuccessful.
