Hawaii holds off late UND rally for 81-78 win

HONOLULU—Hawaii held off a late rally by UND as the Rainbow Warriors took an 81-78 win over the Fighting Hawks on Sunday night in the Rainbow Classic.

Hawaii led by 22 points at one point but the Hawks closed to within one late in the game.

Geno Crandall led UND with 21 points while Marlon Stewart added 18, Conner Avants 14 and Cortez Seales 10.

With five seconds to play, UND's Jafar Kinsey attempted a 3-pointer with the Rainbow Warriors leading 80-78, The shot was off the mark and Hawaii hit a free throw for the final score.

Hawaii, which shot 51 percent, was led by Mike Thomas' 29 points. UND shot 49 percent.

The Hawks dropped to 1-1 in the Rainbow Classic and will take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday night to close out their trip to Hawaii.

Next Sunday, UND takes on Nebraska.
