GGF boys cross country preview

EGF Senior High

Coach: Kirk Misialek.

2017: Fourth at Section 8A meet.

Key graduation losses: None.

Top returners: Jr. Cole Nowacki (4th at section, 45th at state), soph. Tyson Mahar (6th at section, 66th at state), fr. Jonathan Krueger (16th at section), sr. Sakariye Ismail (50th at section), fr. Dawson McDonald (69th at section), soph. Seth Hoostie (75th at section).

Potential new impact runners: Sr. Collin Porter, soph. Adam Johnson, soph. Bobby Jorde.

Green Wave coach Misialek says: "We had no aspirations of how well we could do going into last season. We wound up getting fourth place in the section and we bring back a lot of quality runners. We have really top-notch kids with Cole and Tyson, and Jonathan and Sakariye are good, competitive third and fourth runners. We still have to get stronger in the 5-6-7 spots. Our goal is to get to state as a team.''

GF Central

Coach: Sean Allan.

2017: Fourth at EDC championships, 12th at state meet.

Key graduation losses: None.

Returning state meet runners: Soph. Ryan Meyer (6th at EDC, 31st at state), soph. Adam Arnold (12th at EDC, 53rd at state), soph. Cael Lorenz (42nd at EDC, 78th at state), fr. Joe Williamson (37th at EDC, 85th at state), 8th-grader Quinn Roehl (46th at EDC, 103rd at state), soph. Dylan Van De Bogert (68th at EDC, 115th at state), soph. Brandon Hoverson (90th at EDC, 142nd at state).

Potential new impact runners: Sr. Ethan Harsell, soph. Ty Lorenz, fr. Wyatt Mutzenberger, fr. Lane Stevens, fr. Carter Elde, fr. Cade Halverson.

Knights coach Allan says: "We're really excited about this team. We're still extremely young, with one senior. But our young runners have a real passion for the sport. We're going to surprise some people. Ryan, Adam and Cael are our top returning runners. But we have a bunch of guys who put in a lot of miles over the summer and are fighting for spots. We probably have 11 guys fighting for our top five spots.''

Red River

Coach: Richard Dafoe.

2017: First at EDC Championships, sixth at state meet.

Key graduation losses: Tim Dunham, Dalton Byrne, Cole Stenseth.

Returning state meet runners: Sr. Jake Arason (7th at EDC, 28th at state), sr. Thomas Hugo (22nd at EDC, 62nd at state), sr. Zach Simon (23rd at EDC, 75th at state), jr. Gavin Dorsey (43rd at EDC, 93rd at state), 8th-grader Matthew Rongitsch (96th at state), soph. Broden Diederich (40th at EDC, 105th at state).

Potential new impact runners: Soph. Ryan Prusak, fr. Dameon Zenawick.

Roughriders coach Dafoe says: "We have the potential to be a top five or six team at state again. Our strength is at the top. Jake should lead the team and Zach is looking really good. They should run close, and Hugo should be right behind those guys. They could all push for all-state. After those three, we have a bit of a dropoff.''
